Picture inspired by Charles Dickens characters: Dora Spenlow and her dog Jip
Art Every Day Month, Day 2! It’s almost 9:00 pm as I post this, but I made it by three hours….
Every now and then I like to immerse myself in the world of Charles Dickens and currently I am just finishing up David Copperfield. The characters are so vivid and become so real that I begin to see them, or theri modern counterparts, everywhere I look. This picture is my attempt to portray, in Scribbleflowers style, the character Dora Spenlow and her little dog Jip. I used Prismacolor and Faber-Castell art markers on bristol board.
Dora is the girl that David courts and finally marries. She is rather feather-brained and never without her little dog whom she constantly dotes on. But there is more to Dora’s character than meets the eye. If you have not read the book, I don’t want to ruin it for you by telling you more. There are several good film versions of David Copperfield, but you cannot fully experience the full depth of these fabulous characters unless you read the book. I can’t believe I’ve waited so long. It is a delicious treat.
